My first encounter with this breed – a scent-hound described in Wikipedia as “solid dogs that appear rough and unrefined yet casual – typically active and lively”. Yup – I can vouch for that active and lively part. My handy dog wrangler, Tom, was determined to keep the squirmy, squiggly pup in place for just 5 seconds – enough time for me to get his attention and capture his adorable puppy-ness! Rafa is one of the lucky pups who joins Sydney in the early evenings at the local neighborhood private dog park, as the PGBV needs “daily walks to burn off excess energy”. He’s adapting to running with the “big dogs”, Sydney, Mo and Bailey – and he’s still small enough to escape under the chairs and tables where the other dogs can’t fit when he needs a rest.
