For this week’s theme – “Something New” – I can say I’m involved in doing a lot of NEW techniques as I’m taking an 8-week Portrait Lighting Technique class with a fabulous instructor – Don Giannatti – and several fellow photographers – most of whom are portrait and commercial photographers. There are a few of us in the class that specialize in pets with people photography. We study eight different famous, iconic photographers (Victor Skrebneski, Yousef Karsh, Sarah Moon so far) along with the varied ways they used light to create their art. We are to take what inspires us to create two images each week for our critique sessions. It’s been a fascinating time so far. This week, we studied the work of Sarah Moon – who was the inspiration for this week’s 52 Project image. Her style captivated me with its impressionistic intimacy. The women in her portrait work were captured in varying moods, poses, and expressions. For one short bit, Miss Sydney graced us with her poodle presence to capture a few images. The woman in this image is none other than my model and co-creator for this series of sessions – the lovely Karen Cheng.
So what’s new down under? Time to go visit with Tara Sutherland, New Zealand Pet Photography and see what’s about in her part of the world. Make sure to keep clicking through the webring until you land back here with Sydney & MAC!
