My very first entry into the 52 Project – the theme for this week is “Reflections” … of a furry face. Quite a challenge for me! I was going for a “mirrored” look, tried out the “dog in front of the mirror” – didn’t work. Sydney usually loves to look at the “other dog” and I wanted a bit more of a challenge. And I wanted it to be creative and different. Then I noticed that Tom’s glasses had a slight reflection… and his sunglasses were even better! So I decided to try a macro lens so that I could keep my distance while getting a close-up shot of Sydney reflected in Tom’s sunglasses. I love the shallow depth of field that I get with this lens – and how Sydney’s fur and Tom’s sideburns are juxtaposed in the photo. It took a bit of gymnastics for both my human and dog models and for me – all three of us on the floor in the room with the skylights, me barking out directions to turn this way – then Sydney would move her head at the last minute. After about 30 attempts, here is the final result.
